Foundation

The first step on the way to successfully obtaining your degree.

Foundation Programme is a one-year academic course specifically designed to prepare students for undergraduate study in the UK. This provides an entry route into many of the undergraduate courses in the UK.

Most of the undergraduate courses can be accessed via a foundation year, and international students will also have the chance to improve their English language skills.

What is the Purposes of foundation courses:

This is the most popular programme for international students who have completed their school studies and are ready to start their degree, but who do not yet meet the entry requirements of the UK universities.

This programme acts as a bridge between your existing qualifications and our undergraduate courses by developing your academic English grounding and preparing you for undergraduate study.

These include:

  • Academic Content which are the specific courses related to the chosen degree
  • English Language Preparation which is improving your English language skills
  • General Study Skills help to understand how academic studies works
  • Cultural Adaptation which guides students to deal with cultural differences in a safe environment

General entry requirements:

The admission criteria for international foundation programmes are lower compared to Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees as they are designed to prepare you for attending them. Generally, they have two types of entry requirements for international students:

  • Language proficiency - A minimum IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent is required for international students, with no single element less than 4.0. If you have no formal English qualifications, you may need to attend an English language course or college prior to starting your foundation course.
  • Academic requirements - You must have to prove a level of knowledge which would enable you to continue studies in your chosen subjects whether it’s humanities, engineering, medical science, or others. Most of the Universities look for good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study. You have to be aware of the fact that your high school record should confirm hard work in the types of courses you have pursued, especially if the study courses are closely related to what you are planning to study.

Required Documents are

  • English Language proficiency certificate
  • Higher Secondary School Certificate
  • Higher Secondary transcripts
  • Reference letter from your high school teacher
  • Personal statement
  • Scanned copy of passport and visa

We offer pathways in a wide range of subjects to suit your interests and ambitions. Once you successfully complete this foundation programme with the required grades, you can progress to an undergraduate degree at your chosen university.
